Home, For Now - A Break

Friends,

This year we celebrated our 20th year as Switchfoot, and we are so very thankful for all of you who have shared this journey with us.  It has been an honor to be YOUR band. These are YOUR songs, not just our own. Thank you. Truly. You have no idea how much you’ve inspired us through the years.

As you read this, we are home in San Diego with our families, and we are so grateful to be here for the holidays!  As this year ends, we’re entering into a new season, a season of home. For the first time in twenty years, we are taking an extended break.

We’re embracing this new season with open arms and excitement, strengthening the roots that have made us who we are.

We are brothers, sons, husbands, fathers, and for now, we are home.

We do have a few shows already scheduled for next year that we will play but beyond that we will be off the road for the foreseeable future… This hiatus is a celebration of where we’ve been together. Thank you for being such a huge part of our journey.

We love you all.

Still learning to breathe, and live it well,

Jon, Tim, Chad, Drew & Jerome

Sitting in the San Diego airport waiting to go home myself and just walked by your guitars and BroAm display on the wall. Thank you for all you do! Get some rest!

So incredibly thankful for you guys. Your music has been a part of my life for as long as I’ve been listening to music. Glad I’ve gotten to see & witness you guys change the world one song at a time. Enjoy this time with your families. I’m so happy that you are doing this! A well deserved break guys! Enjoy your families and have a restful, blessed year! Peace, health and prosperity to you all. (It goes without saying that BroAm will happen in 2018!)

  • Andrea Barr

Definitely a well deserved break. After watching Fading West, it is obvious you are in difficult spot, torn between loving making music and bringing people together, inspiring those who need it around the U.S. and world, and being the loving, caring husbands and fathers that your family needs. I’ll miss the concerts selfishly but hope to catch you someday when I get to San Diego. Merry Christmas!

    I
always felt like every song you’ve written is a part of me. I believe
in your songs with every ounce of me. Last year I lost home in fire. Me and my father somehow got out and survived. Luckily, we were the only ones at home that night. Just want to say that I am thankful for your music because it helped me get through the hardest times in my life. And I know that the truth is what remained, the truth is what we saved because we fought for what we loved.

Maybe someday I’ll listen to you in the corner of a concert hall and I’ll whisper ‘thank you’ with a spark in my eyes, because thanks to you, I realized that Love alone is worth the fight.

This is what I found in the ashes…

ENJOY your time off!!!!!! So grateful for Switchfoot and for making music that Changes Lives! I can speak from experience… I was born a skate-surf-snowboarder and bonafide waterman and was also a wayward son for a long time….. coming to your concert in Huntington NY definitely played huge part in MY CHOICE to choose JESUS CHRIST as my Lord and Savior! Watching you do what you do filled me with a passion and gave me permission to pursue life in a similar way that you have..! Thank you all and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your beautiful families..!!!

  • Steve Pruitt

Been a fan from the beginning… Your music has bee like the soundtrack to my adult life!

Glad you guys are on My calendar this year! Will make it that much sweeter when we have you out “Deep in the Heart of Texas” for Rock the Desert 2017!

Rest well earned… enjoy home and the privilege to be present!

Thank you Switchfoot, for your songs that were often the best words I could hear, thank you for exiting and I was very grateful to have met you. May God greatly bless each one of you, happiness and success in this phase of your life.

Please let this be just a temporary breather. I really enjoy your music but more importantly I have a 13-year old daughter who loves your music. In her words, “Switchfoot – they just *get* me.”

I’ve been watching your touring to jump on the next chance you’re near central Alabama and take both of my kids. So I hope that after you’ve taken time to rest and restore, you’ll be back at it. Don’t let a 13-year old girl down! 😉

  • Laura

You all deserve a break! Amen! 20 years on the road is impressive and exhausting I’m sure. I have been a fan for over 15 years and I lost track of how many times I’ve seen you in concert after 10 times. I live in MN but I even got to see you play Hello Hurricane from start to finish at a show in Sydney. Relax and recharge, my friends. You deserve it. Just please at some point do one at least one final show/tour. No matter where you last show ever is, I’ll be there 🙂 Love you guys! Thanks for everything!!!!! Your impact is far greater than you know.

  • Ryan Baker

Um, I;m hoping the heavy metal thing is just y’all having some fun. Right?

  • GaryInPB

Nothing like taking a break to recharge the batteries, and be inspired with new songs! Knowing that….. I can’t wait to see what amazing creations Switchfoot will come up with next!!! Enjoy your time with family, and, in the water boys!

  • you’ve gotta do,what’s right for you. rest.

Dear Jon, Tim, Chad, Drew & Jerome,
Your music has meant a lot to my sons and me over the years. Thank you for being such an encouragement. God Bless you and your families.

  • Johnny K. Tall

I’m happy to hear you guys are taking some time. I don’t know why (maybe i do), but you have been on my heart for the last year or more. I pray for you. Your music has inspired me and so many others. Your last 3 albums in particular have touched me profoundly, as i hear snippets of The Truth, stories of despair met with Hope, and just some good old fashioned rock and roll. Your music has encouraged me to get back to The Way and start allowing my wounds to shine, and Hope to be my anthem. I have been a fan for nearly 20 years, and you’ve become my all-time-favorite band. Each album is better than the last. I pray that this hiatus brings you new-found joy, peace, quiet, and inspires at least 10 more albums.

Dear Jon, Drew, Chad Tim & Jerome

Congratulations for this well deserved season of rest. It is only in the past month that I have come to appreciate you as a band. The beginning of the year I decided to make another attempt to honestly give my life to the Lord. I heard your song with Lauren Daigle on Youtube, the acoustic version of, “I Won’t Let You Go” and I had to learn the lyrics immediately. Like a school girl, I have had your song on repeat for much of my 40 min commute for well over 3 weeks now, and most times it opens the floodgate of tears. This song speaks EXACTLY to my struggle in walking with Christ and through your amazing musicality I was finally able to name it and begin to move through it. Thank you so much.

Enjoy this season of your lives, for you and your families deserve it. The beauty of music is that your work transcends time and space, so every lyric you have set down continues to serve the Lord and lead people to Christ.

  • Todd Ver Hage
